Honda HR-V vs. The Competition

Our Subcompact Crossover vs. the Toyota CH-R vs. the Jeep Renegade

With flexible cargo capacity and available all-wheel drive, it's easy to see why SUVs and crossovers have become increasingly popular for New Hampshire drivers in the Stratham and Dover, NH area. Perfect for families or single commuters, a good SUV can help you tackle any road or weather condition, making them ideal for northern New England storms and winters. At Honda Stratham, we appreciate a great SUV as much as you do, and we're proud to present our customers with a selection of some of the best SUV options around, including the New Honda HR-V.

The smallest SUV in our lineup, the 2021 Honda HR-V is a subcompact model that's petite in size but big in personality. Its smaller size means it's a breeze to park in any crowded Hampton, NH lot, while its pedigree as a world-class Honda model means you can trust that it will be both reliable and constructed of high-quality materials.

But while the five-passenger, 2021 Honda HR-V is a dominant choice for any driver who's shopping for a small SUV, we know that it's not the only one. Here, we've compared our favorite, small SUV to a couple of its main competitors. Read on and discover all the key areas where our model comes out ahead of two of its stiffest competitors.

2021 Honda HR-V vs. Toyota CH-R

  • All-wheel drive: Is an SUV really considered an SUV if it doesn't at least offer all-wheel drive as an option? With AWD being an important must-have feature for many shoppers here in the Portsmouth, NH area, the 2021 Honda HR-V is the preferrable small crossover. It has all-wheel drive available as an option across its entire trim lineup, while the Toyota model doesn't offer it at all.
  • Cargo space: Honda understands that just because you're looking for a small SUV that's easy to maneuver and park, doesn't mean you want to sacrifice on space for all your important gear. The 2021 Honda HR-V is able to offer both - easy-to-navigate size with ample room for groceries, suitcases, and more. In fact, our crossover presents customers with up to 24.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back row, compared to just 19 cubic feet in the Toyota.
  • Versatility and flexibility: Not only will you find more cargo space standard with the Honda model, but you can also count on it to offer an interior that's both versatile and flexible compared to the Toyota CH-R. Both have two rows of seating and accommodations for up to five people. But only the 2021 Honda HR-V also has backseats that can either fold down or flip up, making for extra room for more or bulkier cargo.
  • Passenger comfort: Driving around Exeter, NH in a subcompact vehicle doesn't have to mean sacrificing comfort either, especially for your backseat passengers. Seat three growing kids or three adults side by side comfortably in the backseat of the 2021 Honda HR-V, which has a nice 39.3 inches of legroom and 54.5 inches of shoulder room in the second row. This is compared to only 31.7 inches of legroom and 52.5 inches of shoulder room available in the backseat of the Toyota.

The 2021 Honda HR-V vs. the Jeep Renegade

  • Cargo space: When it comes to transporting your gear, whether it's for camping or shopping bags, there's no comparison between the 2021 Honda HR-V and the Jeep Renegade. The Renegade has a rear cargo hold that accommodates just 18.5 cubic feet, around 6 cubic feet less than our Honda model. Plus, as with the Toyota comparison before this, the Renegade doesn't offer the versatile backseat that folds or flips to allow for more cargo in the backseat area. The Jeep does offer a back row that folds down, like the Honda model, but it doesn't allow for seats that flip up as well.
  • Backseat comfort: The 2021 Honda HR-V also presents Brentwood, NH drivers with a backseat that's more comfortable for passengers. On road trips long or short, your guests will have more room to stretch out, thanks to the nice 39.3 inches of rear legroom. By comparison, the Jeep Renegade backseat offers less, coming in around 35 inches.
  • Ride quality: Riding higher and with a boxier shape that's more at home on rough terrain, the Jeep Renegade can be noisy on the main roads and highways. While the 2021 Honda HR-V, with a ground clearance of 7.3 inches, is smooth and quiet, tackling your commutes and carpool duties with a high-quality ride, the Renegade is boxy and higher up. This makes for louder road noise, especially at higher speeds and, while this model is comfortable if you're interested in trail riding, it pales in comparison to the high-quality ride of the Honda.
